New scent developed by cosmetic chemist Vincenzo Spinnato celebrates the 100th anniversary of Garland’s birth.
July 26, 2022
By: Melissa Meisel
Imagine being an indie beauty brand and being tapped by one of your idols to create a fragrance. Just ask Vincenzo (Vince) Spinnato, cosmetic chemist, “certified nose” and president/CEO of TurnKey Beauty, Inc., based in Capistrano Beach, CA. Judy Garland's daughters Lorna Luft and Liza Minnelli sought out the perfumer to develop a fine fragrance in honor of the legendary actress, recording artist and entertainer. The unisex fragrance, Judy – A Garland Fragrance, debuted this month in honor of the 100th anniversary of Garland’s birth. According to the company, Old Hollywood nostalgia comes alive in this sophisticated, modernized fragrance inspired by what Garland herself wore. This unisex fine fragrance showcases a hint of the official Judy Garland Rose with the addition of Dark Orchid, Coriander, and a medley of sultry Gourmand and spice notes, newly creating an all-inclusive and gender-neutral fine fragrance. Coriander, elemi and Californian grapefruit shimmer over a heart of Honeyed Rose deepening to notes of dark orchid and pink pepper, evoking the emotion of Garland’s music and classic Hollywood films. Luring and captivating, the lingering sweetness of tonka bean, bourbon vanilla and caramel balance against notes of velvety musk and patchouli woods. Garland’s famous dance number “Get Happy” was the main inspiration for the glass bottle influenced by her body movements and image. It is a dark scarlet red color inspired by those ruby slippers.
